The disparity in employment opportunities between urban and rural societies in Thailand encourages women to pursue careers in Bangkok. Limited employment opportunities in the rural area due to dependency on agriculture (men-focused career) and the emergence of Bangkok as a tourism and export hub further amplify their determination.
However, upon arriving in Bangkok, many women can't do a variety of tasks and are exploited due to a variety of reasons. In summary, our foundation’s typical student:
They work like housewives, unskilled manufacturing, service-sector occupations that have lower than average pay wages. The women the foundation works with are in unregulated, unsafe, and unprotected industries for manipulation as cheap and easy labor.
Pratthanadee Foundation develops the potential of young women and women by dividing the working into 2 groups and 2 areas:
1. Bangkok Office
The foundation provides English support and development of life skills through training under the name of "Better Me Program." The program creates impact through empowering underprivileged women with instilled confidence, independence, and ambition to secure safer jobs and better pay.
2. Young women
The Foundation works with students in Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, Sisaket by training and providing knowledge about life skills for students who are graduating in grade 3 and year 6. The Foundation designs a student-centered learning program and expects that they will attain knowledge from within themselves. The program is divided into 2 activities:
Pratthanadee Foundation has helped over 10,000 women and young women and has a total of 162 students since 2002. In 2018, we have trained 3,204 women in the northeast.
